Jonathan Makiri

Associate Marriage and Family Therapist #144831

Choosing therapy is courageous. Examining ourselves honestly can be challenging and uncomfortable, but with the skilled support, attuned compassion, and the collaborative approach of a therapist, positive change emerges for those willing to explore new possibilities.

How Can I Help?

I aim to provide a safe space for support, collaboration, and guidance on how to improve your relationship with yourself, because I believe that all of our relationships—whether it be with a partner, family, friends, work, sex, drugs, your phone, food, etc.—are a reflection of our relationship with ourselves. My focus is with men’s issues around masculinity, purpose, codependency, anger, self-esteem, parenting and relationships.

What is My Approach?

In order to help someone, I need to understand their unique familial and cultural history and how they arrived where they are today. Using both a Psychodynamic and Attachment-Focused framework helps us understand and identify how your early experiences and relationships are impacting your current relationship with yourself and others. I utilize Narrative Therapy and its powerful impact to help individuals reauthor the old, rigid, repetitive, and often negative narratives we tell ourselves that convince us that we are stuck. I also incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to establish new patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving that result in more positive outcomes.

More About Me: I have a diverse career background that includes journalism, photography and surf coaching. I am also a proud father.

Fun Fact: I spend much of my free time exploring the ocean and mountains.
